Instra Corporation, a global ccTLD & IDN (Internationalised Domain Name) leading registrar, is accepting pre-registration of .EU domains in different languages other than English. IDNs are domains which can contain characters from non-Latin character sets. Examples include the Swedish å, the German ü, the Romanian ş and characters from the Bulgarian and Greek alphabets as a whole.
Andrew Barton, CEO of Instra commented, “According to research from Global Reach, 65% of Internet users are non-English speakers. By not having an IDN domain name, you could be missing out on an enormous opportunity to address the non-English market. With our multilingual team, Instra is dedicated to help business owners to further diversify their business and target a wider range of audience via the use of IDNs. IDNs also make it easier for businesses to promote localized products and services.”
EURID, the registry operator for .EU, is launching .EU IDN effective 10 Dec 09. “IDNs are particularly important for .eu,” noted Marc Van Wesemael, EURid General Manager. “EURid supports all twenty-three official EU languages, and our employees come from twenty of the twenty-seven Member States. Supporting the use and growth of Internationalised Domain Names comes naturally to us.” The languages supported are Bulgarian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Italian, Irish, Latvian, Lithuanian, Maltese, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Slovak, Slovene, Spanish and Swedish. For the first time, residents of the European Union will be able to register a .EU domain name made up of non-Latin characters.
Chloe Li, Director of Domain Operations is pleased to announce that Instra has enhanced its IDN support, “IDNs are gaining more than more popularity with brand owners aiming to protect their trademark in all of the most popular languages such as French and Chinese. As a domain name leader, Instra specialises in IDN registration, particularly for the European, Asian and Latin American markets. We notice that Corporate Customers are having difficulties in translating their brand names into diverse languages. At Instra, we can consult to you to ensure the right IDN is created to reflect your online brand.”
