Instra Corporation, Australia’s leading Domain Name and ENUM Registrar, has been named by HKDNR, the Hong-Kong Domain Name Registry, as their Best Performing New Service Partner 2006 (Overseas).
Phillip Parker, Instra’s Business Development Manager, accepted the award from Mr. Jonathan Shea, HKDNR’s CEO at a ceremony held in the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Hong Kong. Mr. Parker said “We recognise the importance of Hong Kong as a key gateway into China’s rapidly expanding Domain Name market.”
Mr. Shea took the opportunity of the Award Ceremony to launch the ‘.hk’ Chinese Domain Name.
Claudia Chen, Head of Instra’s Chinese language activities, announced the company’s participation in the IDN development. “Chinese Character Domain Names (IDNs) will be based on the 45,000+ Chinese characters. We expect the ‘.hk’ IDN to be the front runner of all Chinese IDN domain names until IDNs are implemented at the top level”.
The ICANN Board approved the .ASIA top-level domain last December, and named the DotAsia organisation the responsible gTLD Registry. It is expected that .ASIA TLD will be launched within 6-9 months.. Details of the arrangements will be announced as they are announced.
The scope of the .ASIA TLD has been defined by ICANN as their Asia/Australia and Pacific Region. This includes over 70 countries and covers the Middle East, the Far East and Oceania. Applications will only be considered from organisations officially registered in one or more of these countries.
Tony Lentino, Instra’s CEO, sees a great future for the ‘. hk’, ‘cn’ and ‘. ASIA’ domains; “We see the opportunity dwarfing the recent ‘.eu’ launch, which produced over 2 Million Registrations in just 12 months”.
Instra’s Asia Registry handles all leading Far East domains, including China (.cn and .hk) Korea, Japan Taiwan, Singapore and Malaysia. .For more information about Instra Corporation and Asia Registry, please visit the following website: http://www.instra.com
